(33) 55 London Street Undercroft
Updated 04/04/2020
NUMBER 55 LONDON STREET
The building above the undercroft is from the 19th century and is now a toyshop.

The undercroft dates from the late 16th or early 17th century.
It is of brick construction and consists of one barrel- vaulted chamber with two side chambers. It has a brick floor.
It is the smallest undercroft in Norwich and measures 10.7 square metres.
It has been patched up in places and there are 2 modern brick supporting pillars but it is otherwise in reasonably good condition.
Access to the undercroft is down a spiral staircase into a more recent cellar and down a further narrow spiral staircase.
It is not open to the public. The owner of the shop kindly granted me access to the undercroft.
Surprisingly the building is not included in English Heritage’s Listed Buildings record.
